Beatles in India Photographer Paul Saltzman to appear at the 97Rock Art Show in Buffalo

It was like a fairytale. Paul Saltzman went to India to meditate with the Marharishi in 1968 and during his stay, four new guests arrived at the Ashram....John, Paul, George & Ringo. Saltzman befriended the band and captured with his camera during what was the most prolific time in their careers (48 songs were written in just about 8 weeks!) The period in India is also the least documented part of the Fab Four's history.

Paul Saltzman will appear live with his photographs of the Beatles at the 97Rock Art Show in Buffalo on Friday, March 10th from 11am - 2pm and Saturday, March 11th from 12 noon to 3pm. The show is at the Walden Galleria Mall in Buffalo. Paul will also share a power point presentation on the Beatles in India as well as answer any questions. This is not to be missed! The show if free and all works of art and photographs are available to purchase with a portion going to charity. Check out http://www.97rock.com/artshow/ for details.

Rock Art Show Gets Behind the Petition Drive to Honor Roy Orbison with a Postage Stamp

The Rock Art Show is getting behind the efforts to have a United States Postage Stamp issued honoring the late great Roy Orbison on the occasion of his 70th birthday. We will have a beautifully framed copy of the Orbison stamp design at all our upcoming Rock Art Shows. We encourage our friends to enjoy the artistic beauty of the stamp and sign our petition to have this stamp issued by the Postal Service. Thanks!

Exclusive Johnny Cash Giclée by Baron Wolman

Here is the third image by legendary rock photographer Baron Wolman (Rolling Stone Magazine’s first chief photographer). The Rock Art Show will release limited edition 16” x 20” giclées (pronounced "gee-clay") of three of his classic images. (What's a giclée?) Here is the third image of the three. Click the following link if you would like to check out the special "Rock Art Show - Baron Wolman" page. Here is the image of Johnny Cash.

The moody black & white Johnny Cash photograph was taken backstage in the dressing room of the Circle Star Theatre (subsequently demolished) in Redwood City, California, in December 1967. Wolman recalled that Cash seemed strangely troubled before the show and he speculated whether Johnny would even go onstage. Fortunately, Wolman's worries were unfounded. A few moments later, Cash was in the spotlight, microphone in hand, and that evening, for a wildly enthusiastic audience he and his wife June gave another outstanding performance.

Exclusive Grace Slick Giclée by Baron Wolman

As we mentioned the other day, the Rock Art Show has teamed up with legendary rock photographer Baron Wolman (Rolling Stone Magazine’s first chief photographer) to release limited edition 16” x 20” giclées (pronounced "gee-clay") of three of his classic images. (What's a giclée?) Here is the second image of the three. If you can't wait for the rest of the posts, you can check out this special "Rock Art Show - Baron Wolman" page. For now, check out this sexy Grace Slick giclée.

This color Grace Slick picture was taken in 1968, inside Design Research, an upscale furniture and accessory store which used to be located in San Francisco's Ghirardelli Square. At the time, Grace was openly disrespectful of many accepted traditions and would wear her Girl Scout uniform to subtly poke fun at what she felt were pointlessly strict Girl Scout -- and society -- rules. At one moment during the photo session, I caught her looking into a mirror, making faces and reciting the "Scout's Honor." Grace, who these days is an accomplished painter, used this photo as inspiration for her signature self-portrait and the logo image on her website.
